Did I get a bad batch or did they totally change these?
I LOVED these licorice, until this bag. They were soft and flavorful with the perfect texture. Somewhat like Panda licorice but much better. I have noticed they were out for a while so I’ve been waiting for them to restock. However, the bag I have is HORRIBLE!! I’m wondering if during the absence from the site if they totally changed some things. The formula? Process? Ingredients? Now, they are very hard, unpleasant to try to chew, and the flavor is almost nondescript. Also, the deep black color and perfect texture are no more. These have an almost translucent look to them and they are a very dark shade of brown instead of black. I do not like them now at all. Could it be that I received a bad batch? I hope so. I will give this bag one star and attempt to repurchase another time. If they are still bad, I will be on the search for another favorite licorice.

Really big pieces of licorice — and not quite as strong/tasty as Yum Gluten-Free licorice, which I prefer because they are in smaller pieces. However, I ate the whole bag of these with no complaints.

If you love black licorice you will love this! But,….it came as a not fresh product. It was definitely old and hardening and sugary on the outside. Shame because this is a fabulous product

Not as good as Panda
Panda black licorice is my favorite because it is consistently soft, has a warm licorice/molasses flavor, and is only made from 4 ingredients. I decided to give this licorice a try because it sounded similar. It was definitely not as soft, which took away some of the chew satisfaction. I didn’t love that it includes 11 ingredients. The flavor was okay but didn’t have as much of that molasses warmth I was looking for. I was hoping for an addictive treat that makes me want to eat the whole bag, but I was fine stopping after a few pieces.

I was so looking forward to this product! I ate a few pieces, loved the soft texture. Until I looked at the ingredients and saw it contains wheat. I have celiac and cannot eat wheat. Very disappointed

RJs black licorice is the best and real licorice I’ve tried.
RJs is a wonderful licorice. However the black licorice the seller sent me was past the expiry date. I indicated this to the seller but have not heard back. Not nice. Disappointed. Don’t let this happen again.

Stuck together
These were basically stuck together like a big blob. Yes, it was possible to separate them but it was a completely pain. Saw basically the same bag for $2 less and the licorice isn’t stuck together. The taste, texture, etc., is the same. For the price, I would expect better quality. BTW, this is the second bag I purchased that were stuck together.

Love RJ’s but they are hiding the best from us here in America.
In NZ RJ’s markets milk chocolate covered licorice balls, they are good, but they have raspberry logs filled with white chocolate (bags too) and what they call Irish Moss (licorice dots with candy sprinkles). These are Hunter Biden addictive! Apparently the Kiwis are not willing to share.Their black licorice (all their licorice) is awesome. This is something to treat yourself to on occasion.

Very good tasting Licorice.
Very good taste and very soft. Order arrived on time. The only negative was that most of it was stuck together, which could of been caused by the hot weather sitting outside my front door or during shipping. Very good product for the price.

Very tasty!
Bought these pieces for a cake design in which I needed black olives made. They worked perfectly when cut into pieces and small holes put in them. The taste was great! The value was perfect and they were actually just right for my needs. Would definitely order again. What’s more, they came much sooner than I thought they would.

Not tasty at all. MY fault. I did not FULLY read the ad. I have had RJ’s before and enjoyed it. This variety is “plant based” – doesn’t taste like any black licorice I have eaten before. Wasted by money.

GREAT flavor & texture
One of my FAVORITE black licorice brands. Most of the time it arrives very soft if I get a bag that’s a little chewy er than I’d like I just microwave a few pieces for about 12 sec in a small container. The main reason I buy this is 3 pieces every night keeps me regular. 😊

Yes, It tastes like vegan
I love real good black tradition licorice, not the stuff you buy in Walmart by the pound. Licorice must have two things to make it good Licorice extract and Trickle for true Black Licorice. This has a week flavor and very over oiled to keep it from sticking. I love true black licorice but this one I won’t buy again. Black Twizzlers tastes better.

Flavor not there for me.
This licorice is brown and it’s supposed to be. The color doesn’t bother me, but I like my licorice to have a strong flavor and this didn’t have it. It’s good, but not what I expected.

Brown…weakest flavored licorice I ever had.
Some of You know how it is if you’ve been craving licorace … and tear open the bag…. But this stuff? I opened the bag..it barely had a scent of licorice. It was brown as I show in the pictures and I instantly wondered if it was some weird chocolate flavored licorice like what they do with the red stuff. Too soft…mostly just sweet tasting with hardly any taste or color of licorice. Note I put the black flashlight in as a true black. My hand too.. so the colors show as true and not doctored. Disappointed….and STILL craving licorice! 😟

Silly me, since I’m new to the different brands of licorice, I thought I’d try a higher priced brand. I’d hoped to find an outstanding product. Well, in this case, you don’t get what you pay for.For starters, the licorice flavor was on the weak side. It was a bit harder than others I’ve tried, and, it wasn’t even black! Ok, so it’s from New Zealand – big deal!Therefore, in my opinion, it just doesn’t have enough of the attributes of a good licorice that I look for. So, it’s average at best.

Wrong product sent and a no returns policy
RJs licorice is great but purchasing via this vendor I was sent the wrong product (mango not regular) and they have a zero returns policy. I would not purchase from them again.

Excellent licorice, good ingredients, soft texture, fresh
I buy this for family members who love black licorice. this meets their standards. My standards are that it is free of high fructose corn syrup which it is and has understandable ingredients. I have found that the best licorice is from outside the US and this is no exception.I ordered this bag in Nov 2016 and it is good until Jun 27, 2017 so a fresh batch.This one is made with real licorice extract and aniseed oil so for those with heart issues you do need to make sure you do not over eat it as it can cause heart palpitations. This has happened to a member who was eating too much, reducing the amount took care of the problem.Excellent quality.

Won’t be buying these again
Last week I bought 2 bags of these but the result was much better. They were tender and some of the best licorice I’d ever eaten. Knowing how good they were I bought them again. I wish I hadn’t. These or dried out, hard to chew and made sure I will not do that again.

Package was opened
I seem to be unable to return or complain except in a review. I ordered multiple packages and one arrived already open at the top. I would not eat a food product that is already open. I am unable to request a return or refund or request a replacement.
